Conspiracy theories: Pope Benedict XIV's Resignation

Lightning appeared to strike St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City justhours after Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation, and it struck twice! The AFP photographer responsible for the image was only able to capture the image the 2nd time... It was a rainy monday evening and he thought he might try his luck if lighting might hit the rod and lucky him, it did..
ITS A SIGN! WE'RE DOOMED><<
"It was icy cold and the rain was falling in sheets,When the storm started, I thought that lightning might strike the rod, so I decided it was worth seeing whether – if it DID strike – I could get the shot at exactly the right moment,The first bolt was huge and lit up the sky, but unfortunately I missed it,I had better luck the second time, and was able to snap a couple of images of the dome illuminated by the bolt."

He waited two hours before lightning struck twice and he captured a still image.
Those of us who love conspiracy theories already have one for the Pope Benedict's resignations, this hasn't occured in 600 years and everyone's questioning..

Although the pope who has served for 7 years is said to resign due to ill health and old age, but then Pope John Paul II suffered from Parkinsons and served till his last day but then is asking for the same from Pope Benedict XIV too much? The Pope  sent shock waves through the Catholic world and to conspiracy theories like us to hurt our heads and bring to the table a reasonable explanation
#Conspiracy theory 1; a priest accused of molesting boys was given therapy in 1980 and later allowed to resume pastoral duties, before committing further abuses and being prosecuted. Pope Benedict, who at the time headed the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, approved the priest’s transfer for therapy."The conspiracy theory alleges that a documentary which reveals Pope Benedict's culpability in the case is about to erupt in a scandal

#Conspiracy theory 2; his childhood involvement in the Hitler Youth movement. This really isn't anything new either. Pope Benedict XVI had acknowledged his involvement with the Hitler Youth, describing it as a “dark time” in his past. But he defended himself, saying he was forced to join the movement. But some are speculating that there may be some new big revelation about his Nazi past that is too big for the Vatican to handle

#Conspiracy theory 3; the prophetic theory goes that the last Pope to resign in 1415, Gregory XII, did so to prevent a schism in the church over succession. The argument goes that Benedict's resignation may be in response to growing threats of schism in the 21st century Roman Catholic Church over demands that the next Pope should come from a non-European part of the world. Media reports already hint that any move to block the demand may result in a rift. Benedict was elected Pope at a time expectations were high that the next Pope would either be an African, the Cardinal Francis Arinze, or a Cardinal from Latin America.

Remember these are just conspiracy theories.....he could just be too old, in 2005 he was 78 years old, the oldest pope elected since the 18th century!
